The new platform “puts listeners at the centre, simplifies the experience and gives our brands the digital presence they deserve”, explains Salvador Ribeiro, CEO of Bauer Media Audio Portugal.
Rayo is Bauer Media Audio Portugal’s new digital platform, bringing together its main radio brands — Rádio Comercial, M80 Rádio, Cidade FM and Smooth FM. Radio stations and podcasts are unified in one place to “simplify the experience in an increasingly fragmented audio ecosystem”, according to a statement.
In the app, listeners can find live broadcasts from Bauer’s main radio stations in Portugal, digital radio stations and exclusive content, the group’s podcasts and music experiences organised by mood, theme and time of day. The app was designed for everyday use and the in-car environment, and also includes a premium version that allows users to listen to radio without advertising breaks.
“Rayo represents a decisive step in our digital transformation in Portugal. It is a platform that puts listeners at the centre, simplifies the experience and gives our brands the digital presence they deserve in an increasingly competitive and global market,” explains Salvador Ribeiro, CEO of Bauer Media Audio Portugal.
The executive adds that it “creates new opportunities for brands and advertisers, enables closer relationships with audiences, is based on first-party data and offers greater segmentation capabilities and integrated digital audio solutions that are relevant and effective”.
The launch of Rayo is accompanied by a national multimedia campaign, created internally — bringing together presenters, designers, social media managers and brand managers — with a presence across Bauer Media Audio Portugal’s channels and on radio, digital audio, digital, social media and outdoor formats, with media management handled by Nova Expressão. The campaign launches simultaneously with the app and will run over the coming weeks.
This is not the first application of its kind in Portugal, with Grupo Renascença Multimédia having brought together its podcasts and radio brands in 2021 through the Popcasts platform. In February 2025, José Luís Ramos Pinheiro, a board member of the group, invited the country’s other radio stations to create a national podcast aggregator capable of competing “slowly, gradually” with international platforms.
